Betameche is a character to like he is humorous and quite amusing.ĭuring his journey to Necropolis, many things that are seemingly normal to him, are now giants to Arthur. Readers may find Betameche cowardly, but I prefer to think he is just being extra cautious. Selenia can be arrogant at times and a bully to Betameche. Together, they embark on a journey to seek and battle the evil Maltazard. Arthur, now a Minimoy, meets Princess Selenia and her brother, Betameche. How Arthur enters is interesting enough to keep me glued to the book. Intriguing!Īrthur races against time to enter the Minimoys land as the its gateway opens only on the seventh moon of each year. Just when all hope is lost (the electrical supply to the house gets cut off and they are to forced to move out in three days), Arthur stumbles upon a clue, left by his grandfather, that guides him to the world of the Minimoys. Grandfather has disappeared years ago and has not returned. Grandfather has hid them and only two knows where they are: Grandfather and no one. All they need is some of Grandfather's rubies to pay off their debts. Like the Chinese Yin and Yang, the balance in the lives of the Bogo-Matassalai are the Minimoys, miniature people, measuring less than an inch tall, who live undrground.Īrthur, 10, lives with his grandmother who unfortunately faces financial problems. Through Arthur's grandfather, Luc Besson describes the Bogo-Matassalai as an African tribe, people who were long and thin, and "they looked like distant cousins of girraffes, with the same strange gracefulness". I do have to mention that some of the animated characters in Minimoy’s world are scantily dressed in African tribe attire and the Princess shows her midriff – none of the costumes are out of the ordinary for the characters who wear them. But, after everything is said and done, this is a movie for everyone. You will find it slow at times, leaving the kids restless. Mixing animation with live action is cute but this film could have used something to make it more adventurous. There he helps the Minimoys save their world along with his. He travels into the small world though a moon-lit portal door that is opened by 3 turns of the ring of the telescope once each for the body, mind and soul. “Arthur and the Invisibles” is a combination of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, “Sword in the Stone” and “A Kid in King Arthur’s Court”. Based on a series of children’s books, this movie takes you on a fantasy adventure with a young boy that wants to save his granny’s home and find his grandfather.
